Eminem OWNED the Superbowl commercials...

yeah, I watched the Superbowl. Yeah, I was pulling for Pittsburgh. Yeah, I knew Green Bay was gonna win. No, I'm not hating, but I was really just trying to watch some good commercials with my wife. Yeah, we are twisted here in America... The commercials for the most part, were mad regular. Only a few managed to stand out at all, and two of them featured the mighty Marshall Mathers...

I remember when these Brisk commercials had isht on lock. It was great to see Eminem holding it down in stop motion (or whatever). I haven't really been checking for his music lately (still hurt from the snafu on wax called Encore), but I've heard good things (signing Slaughterhouse to Shady Records helped). I used to be a fan, so it was good to be able to cheer for Marshall again...

I really enjoyed this Chrysler commercial Em was in, too... but for different reasons. Most Americans -regardless of political leaning, race or geography- have it in them to be patriotic. I personally get turned off by the more obnoxious parts of patriotic speech that are based on nothing at best (and lies at worst), but this is a propaganda piece that I can enjoy, because of how understated it is. And before you say otherwise, the almost religious elevation of the midwest is as patriotic as it gets in America. It's why Superman is from Kansas after all... After the economy took a buzzsaw to the midwest in recent years, people across the country look at any improvement in the midwestern economy as an improvement for everybody. So this will likely strike a chord on some feelgood isht (it doesn't hurt that the Superbowl teams were from the midwest either...)
Beyond these, there were a bunch of uninspired beer and car commercials, and multiple attempts to get me to watch Glee (not gonna happen). The young Vader was pretty fresh too (my wife had been watching it repeatedly on youTube already)

and this Doritos commercial was pretty good in a WTF kinda way...

so I guess if I saw four commercials I liked, that's a win, right? What commercials did you like?

NBA to the rescue?

yeah, so I'm pretty excited about the start of the NBA season...

I was never able to get into baseball (congratulations to the Texas Rangers and their fans for making their first world series bid), and I like football well enough, but basketball is easily my favorite sport. I am one of the few people who cares more about the NBA than college ball, I am also one of the rare people who watches preseason games. Most people have already penciled the new-look Miami Heat and the Lakers into the NBA Finals, but I am very interested to see how the season goes.
So far, I have seen the Heat, but Wade was out with an injury. Boston looks nice. After watching how he played with Team USA, I'm looking forward to seeing how Durant and the OKC Thunder do, especially after putting a scare into Lakers fans in last year's playoffs. Durant's star is definitely on the rise. Orlando is undefeated in the preseason, which I know doesn't really matter, but still. There are as many good stories to follow in the NBA as there are in comics, which I suppose is the point of this ESPN the magazine cover. That, and selling the Thor, Captain America and Avengers movies Marvel has in the pipe. Anyways, I'm looking forward to the start of my favorite sports season...
