PREVIEW- Heroes for Hire #5

SPOILER ALERT, N*GGA! This is the end of a story arc, so they're gonna give a lotta stuff away...  If you don't wanna know, don't blame me! Just wait and buy this when it drops on April 6th...

yeah... for whatever reason the artist from the first couple issues Brad Walker (GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY) didn't at least finish out the story arc... the artist in these samples isn't bad, I guess, but isn't anything special either... I will probably buy this story in trade anyways when it comes out this summer, but I definitely would'a preferred that Walker stay on. Oh well...

Are You feeling the NEW HEROES FOR HIRE?

I have a good feeling about the new Heroes for Hire series, even though it doesn't star Luke Cage, the original Hero-for-Hire (he's in enough books right now, I guess...). The new team has a new premise, wherein H4H alum Misty Knight acts as a handler of heroes she hand-picks for missions as she sees fit. "I'm owed a lotta favors by some useful people..." Knight says in Heroes for Hire #1 "I figured it was time I got creative..." I posted up some preview pages from the first couple issues below, so you could geek out with me...

Seems like Misty is graduating from baller to shot-caller status on this book, but I'm sure she will step out the booth and get her hands dirty from time to time. If these preview pages can be believed, this book is gonna be AWESOME! Abnett & Lanning (THE THANOS IMPERATIVE, PUNISHER: YEAR ONE) are known for dope outside-the-box writing, and Brad Walker (GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY) is beating up the pencils like they stole somethin'... I gotta get my hands on these issues next time I roll to the comic shop.

PREVIEW: Misty Knight's "Blood on the Street" series conclusion

Misty Knight and crew have apparently been getting the worst of it in the conflict against the ninjas of the Hand... I haven't been reading this, but it looks decent.
Here's the Sales Pitch and a preview.
It’s the chilling climax for the odd squad of Misty Knight, Paladin, Silver Sable and The Shroud! The unlikely quartet believe they've uncovered the real villain behind the mob murders. But the truth is even more shocking than they realize! To lay a trap for the death-dealing ninjas, the four fearless fighters must execute a daring plan, coming together to face off against The Hand...and one of them must face an ugly truth! Don't miss this explosive, dark and bloody conclusion.

no action in this preview, really. But we get a cameo from Misty Knight's man Danny Rand (better known as the Immortal Iron Fist) and some good exposition. Shadowland Blood on the Streets #4 will be at the comic shop for you on Wednesday, November 24th. As you know from a previous post, Misty is leading a Heroes for Hire series starting in December (to read about that, click here)

PREVIEW: Blood On The Streets #3

Dude I'm busy, but you know what it is: blah blah Misty Knight yada yada Daredevil, etc dope blah tight...
Misty Knight... The Shroud... Silver Sable... Paladin!
NINJAS!!!
GO!
The Sales Pitch
As Shadowland continues to spread across New York City, the strange bedfellows finally come together—each struggling to solve the mystery of the Hand murders! The killing spree shows no sign of stopping, but the ninja’s latest victim is an unusual choice, and casts doubt among our heroes! Will their differences and mistrust keep them apart? Or can they work together to cut through the mystery before it’s too late...and before one of them becomes the next target?

So we already know there's gonna be a Hero-For-Hire series starting in December, so at least we know Misty's not gonna get killed...   hopefully the new/old prices will kick in so THAT series isn't $4 each (oh, you didn't know that my boycott of $4 comics got DC and Marvel to roll back prices to $3 an issue? yeah, you're welcome). Anyways, Shadowland: Blood on the Streets #3 hits stores tomorrow, Wednesday October 13th, so prepare the fatted calf and cop it... I gotta get back to work.

New Heroes for Hire Coming Soon!

I was pleasantly surprised to hear that Marvel is launching a new Heroes for Hire series starring Misty Knight that has some returning characters from previous H4H series (like Misty's man the Immortal Iron Fist, and the douchebag you love to hate, Paladin), not to mention a few eyebrow-raising surprise players.

After loading her team up with obscure characters during the Civil War: Heroes for Hire mini, I guess Marvel decided it was time to give Misty an All-Star team to play with! I was shocked to see Elektra and the Punisher running alongside Moon Knight and Iron Fist, but they are clearly trying for the same vibe that makes books like Thunderbolts work. Conspicuously absent, of course, is Misty's BFF Colleen Wing (at least in these teasers), who is currently starring in her own miniseries Daughters of the Shadow.  Perhaps the outcome of that series explains her absence from the new Heroes for Hire joint, which drops in December. As you already know, I always welcome more Misty Knight in my life, so I'm copping it to see what the deal is... With Cage in two  Avengers  books and Thunderbolts, Colleen in a mini and now the new H4H book, it's a great time to be a fan of the old gang!

MISTY KNIGHT SIGHTING!!!

Okay, I have been pretty strict about not buying any $4 comics, but those silly sons'a guns at Marvel are just so DEVIOUS!!!! Putting Silver Sable and the Shroud in the same comic may have been enough to make me do a double take, but then they went and put MISTY KNIGHT in there, too? BASTARDS!!! why don't you guys read the sales pitch and preview pages of Shadowland: Blood on the Streets #1 that I gaffled from CBR, while I check for change in the couch...
Striking from the pages of Shadowland, four cult-favorite heroes rise into the spotlight: Silver Sable…Paladin…Misty Knight...The Shroud! Is a rogue faction of Daredevil's ninjas secretly targeting the mafia? With DD's dark castle looming over the city, has The Man Without Fear finally lost his mind? This twisted murder mystery ensnares a quartet of vastly different operatives--but will it unite them, or place them in each other's crosshairs? Can this controversial crew put aside their differences before a war between The Hand and the mob sets New York ablaze? Join Antony Johnston (DAREDEVIL) and Wellinton Alves (THUNDERBOLTS) for a bloody tour down the mean streets of Shadowland!

Not bad... The Shroud is one of my all-time favorite D-list characters... and they got Misty Knight rocking the sleeveless like Michelle Obama. I like the braids too.... DAMN YOU, MARVEL!
ahem. Anyways, Shadowland: Blood on the Streets #1 will be in your comic shop demanding to be bought next Wednesday, August 11.
