Some of you may not be familiar with Oxnard, CA emcee Medaphoar. well, I suggest you get familiar...MED has nice flows and only seems to work with dope producers (Just Blaze, Oh No, Babu, Georgia Ann Muldrow, Madlib, Diamond D, Dilla). For the record, Mutant Emcee Volume 1: Resistence Muzik is like 27 tracks long, with a few skippable tracks, but really it's got more than a few that are really brilliant. I used to live for tapes like this, actually PAYING for them to help me discover new talent. Had I paid $10 bucks for this, I would'a been ecstatic to discover artists like Sean Wan, MERCURY, Burger and Mygrane McNastee, who consistently spit flames on this one.
If you're in a hurry, make SURE to listen to track 8 (Out of My Mind), track 14 (Faded Foxes), track 15 (Hip Hop Was Never Dead),  and track 25 (No Sell Out). But you'll get a lot out of this if you're able to resist hitting the skip button. Like a lotta indie rap tapes, Mutant Emcee Volume 1: Resistence Muzik has lots of songs that are missing something... but what they have is worth hearing, if you actually LIKE hip hop.  Songs like track 6 (My Gun) and track 13 (Blunts for My People) feature some quality rapping that is a lot better than the hooks that they share space with. Now that cats tend to flood the streets with these tapes, we get 'em free, so what do I got to complain about?
Plus, this joint has mad X-men drops and slick comics references, so it's worth it just for that! click here to cop it free, suckaz...

Like Sunday Morning...

If I was a rapper, r&b or gospel singer, I would steal beats from this dude B. Lewis and make a bangin' ass mixtape...my dude Zees Moreno put me on to this dude, and all I can say is he sure knows his way around the boards...
I'm actually in the middle of listening to his free offering, La Semaine (literally, The Week)... can't give you much of a review, since I may never get past Day Two: When The Wise Men Fall, but I feel confident recommending it anyway. it is FREE, after all...


okay, I left that one behind in the name of reviewing this... like the tags he posted suggest, San Francisco native B. Lewis makes experimental hip hop laced soul music. His beats remind me of 9th Wonder, Jah Born or S-1 of strangeFruit Project... very soulful and jazzy, but obviously the work of a beatsmith raised on hip hop. There isn't any rapping on the 7 track La Semaine, but I could easily see an emcee like Common, J-Live, or Playdough feeling at home on these beats. The beats all by themselves evoke a spirit of introspection, love and loss that I hope would be used to serve a true lyricist, be it rapper or singer, not some idiot crush music.

Writer Dye is a concept album in which Playdough took lyrics from other bands and genres and turned them into choruses for these 10 songs. Some are word for word, others served as inspiration. All production is finely crafted by For Beats Sake with guest appearances by Sivon, Othello, Chucky Sly and Sev Statik. All cuts are by DJ SeanP and Theory Hazit.

DOWNLOAD THIS----> "Constructicons" mixtape by The Lyricists!

One of my favorite crews returns with the Constructicons mixtape.

It was love at first listen for me when I discovered the dynamic Detriot duo of Ill-tone and Rym- (B)enda on mySpace back in 2007... I've been collecting mp3s from these dudes ever since, and they are mustard, fammo! The Lyricists make hip hop the way I fell in love with it back in the day. These cats write rhymes and spit fire, bringing the combination of cleverness on the mic and battle-sharpened fearlessness that today's 'buzz'-addicted rap fans just don't seem to require anymore.

Even though these dudes could probably make dope records spitting over metronome ticks, they scoured the globe for beats that compliment their rhymes, gathering producers from Germany, France and Sweden to enhance the sonic experience on this mixtape. Constructicons also features several tracks with other emcees rhyming 'longside the Lyricists and living up to the group's moniker, including a couple dope tracks with Mike Melton (track 10 Flowgasm and track 15 Man on Fire), who rhymes like a freaking monster. I can't say enough about Constructicons. In the free mixtape era, a lotta crews drop them and don't give you your money's worth... I hope Constructicons will put the Lyricists on a lot more people's proverbial rap radar, so I'm happy to help get the word out!
