PREVIEW- new Usagi Yojimbo

It's Dark Horse Comics' 25th anniversary, which explains the big 25 on the cover of Usagi Yojimbo #136, the first issue of  the new story arc. If you've never read Stan Sakai's epic saga of a wandering rabbit samurai, this is a good time to jump on board...

Stan Sakai is a master cartoonist, and this looks to be a great chapter in the life of the rabbit ronin! Usagi Yojimbo #136 will be in stores tomorrow, March 30th. Cop it at your local comicshop, or start at the beginning with Usagi Yojimbo, Book 1: The Ronin.
If you REALLY feel like diving in, you can cop the Usagi Yojimbo: Special Edition Box Set collecting the first seven Usagi books, including the earliest stories; the origin story, the Samurai original graphic novel; and literally dozens more.  It also has extra material, some from the long-out-of-print hardcover editions and some brand new: a complete full-color gallery of the more than 50 Usagi covers from that period (never-before-collected); many preparatory sketches; two "non-canon" Usagi stories by Sakai co-starring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (with whom Usagi also shared screen time in the TMNT TV series); and a long career-spanning interview with Sakai. If you've got the bread ($63 as I write this, marked down from $100!), you can click here to cop that. 25 years worth of furry samurai action, suitable for kids yet good enough for you!

In STORES NOW- AXE COP: Bad Guy Earth #1

Cops only have a few rules to follow. No traveling from one planet to another. No going back in time. No Flying. You can shoot bad guys with a gun, but no axes... Well this cop broke every cop rule!

Here's the Sales Pitch:
The amazing and hilarious comic is making its debut as an all-new Dark Horse miniseries this spring! Comics fans and fancy news blogs aren’t the only ones to take notice of Axe Cop; now the so-called “real” police know about him, too. And if there’s one thing police don’t like, it’s a guy with an axe who’s better than they are at catching and dispatching bad guys! Now Axe Cop and his partner Dinosaur Soldier are being treated like bad guys, not only by the police, but by the president and the army, too! But when a pair of nasty villains barge in from outer space and turn the army into actual bad guys, who gets the call to set things right? Axe Cop!
* Upon its debut as a webcomic in December of 2009, Axe Cop was hailed by the entertainment press as an instant hit!
* Artist and cocreator Ethan Nicolle was nominated for an Eisner award for his 2008 comic series Chumble Spuzz.
* Written by a six-year-old and drawn by his thirty-year-old brother!

yup. I heard of this a while back and forgot about it, but I must admit, it's pretty awesome. Peep the webcomic at AxeCop.com.  The initial 144 pages of the webcomic are collected in Axe Cop Volume One. You can also grab a copy of Axe Cop: Bad Guy Earth #1, which is in stores now.

Robert Love to drop new Sketchbook and debut his sci-fi comic "Number 13" in DHP!

Underground comics phemom Robert Love (Chocolate Thunder, Blind Monkey Style, Fierce) leaked the cover to his new sketchbook, The Hive...

Love will have the 52 page black and white sketchbooks available for just $6 at Emerald City Con, which takes place March 4th-6th in Seattle. If you still haven't bought Blind Monkey Style, I'm sure he'll have copies of that on hand as well. He is also working on a full color art book for the summer.
Now is definitely a good time to get in on the Love train, since it's been announced that Dark Horse will debut his creepy/ awesome/ futuristic sci-fi comic Number 13 in the second issue of its Dark Horse Presents relaunch. I can only hope this brings more fan attention to Love and his Number 13 and Blind Monkey collaborator David Walker (BadAzz Mofo). Here's some preview art from Number 13 I found on the internet...

anyways, I've been a fan of Robert Love for a long time, so it's good to see his hard work bearing fruit! For more of my writing about Robert's work, click here. You can also follow his blog here.
[EDIT:you can preorder that Sketchbook HERE for just $7!]
